My name is Andrew Russo, better known throughout the ROTC world as gimpy. I'm prone to problems and injuries for some strange reason and have been on crutches more times than I care to remember. Anyways, I am originally from a town outside of Boston called Natick. I have lived there all my life and watched it grow from a simple little town with a sprawling downtown (in New England terms), baseball on Sunday afternoons, and beautiful scenery to snobville with its own versions of Starbucks and such. I gladly left the area before getting sucked into its new façade and decided to attend college here at UCF because it had a decent reputation and I have always wanted to live in Florida. The day after I graduated on June 10th, I left for Orlando and started classes. On day one, I contacted my local recruiter for information on the Army. No parents to hear it, no harm done.
I have wanted to enlist all my life, I love it for some reason. Maybe it's my incredible interest in history and military warfare. I don't know, but I am the only person in my family to ever join an armed force. I signed up for ROTC because I wanted to join the Army, but I wanted a degree to fall back on in case I ever left the Army. I can still hear my father saying over the phone, "You did what!?" That was funny. I consider myself to be pretty laidback taking a relaxed approach to life. I enjoy sitting on my patio and watching the rain just as much as I enjoy going to a party and showing the best side of my Irish heritage.
I also love to read, watch movies, and study history and culture. I love going to Barnes and Nobles and looking in the history and political science sections, grabbing a book, reading it, and writing down what I gathered from it and compiling it into essays. I'm one of those intellectual types I guess. Despite my relaxing and generally happy nature, I absolutely despise two things in the world. One is ignorance or idiocy, and two is arrogance. I can't stand people who think they are the god of the universe and are entitled to wealth and glory because of it. They think they know it all, are all, and will attempt to belittle you for any number of reasons. I certainly don't consider myself that, hell I can't even find a girlfriend who isn't the Spawn of Satan. How could I be all knowing? Well that's me.
